The field of construction is a highly hazardous occupation. The risk factors associated with it very often results in the death of many workers working on these construction sites. In fact the area of construction business is reputed of having the third highest rte of death caused by injuries. Factors like these had intensified the need of having a bunch of safety and health regulations for construction that would help providing favorable conditions of work to the construction workers. Before laying out a discourse on the topic of construction health and safety procedures it is important that we discuss the harmful aspects of construction business that initiated the movement in the first place. The hazards commonly associated this area are:

Material Hazards- As the business of construction deals with of constructing buildings, the use of cement becomes imperative. Thus working with fresh concrete pieces made of cement is risky as the soft cements may settle on the human skin producing harmful results.

Machinery- The heavy machines like the rotating machinery, concrete/masonry saws, hydraulic concrete pumps are very risky for the operators using them on a daily basis.

The safety and health convention, 1988 has made the incorporation of prevent ional measures in the construction sites a must. Cranes, chains, slings, hoists are some of the primary equipments that help in securing the lives of workers at the site.
